Details:
On the east side of the D-18 Grand Rue at the south side of Izernore, by the traffic circle at the ZI de la Plaine. The airstrip was behind the industrial buildings, below the wooded hill. Marker
he monument honors the first landing of Operation Dakota at 3 am on 7 July 1944. The C-47 stayed camoflaged on the ground on 7 July, guarded by the resistance, and returned to England that night. The airfield saw 7 successful resupply missions in August 1944 by both the USAAF and the RAF.

Sur ce terrain clandestin d'Izernore dans la nuit du 6 et 7 juillet 1944 eut lieu l'Operation Dakota, premiere atterrissage en France occupee pars le Nazis d'un C-47 de l'USAAF mission d'aide aux maquis de l'Ain et du Haut Jura.
English translation: Operation Dakota, the first landing in Nazi occupied France by a USAAF C-47 on a mission to aide the French resistance of the Ain and Haut Jura, happened on this clandestine airfield on the night of 6-7 July 1944.
