Lt. Robert M. Lamar Memorial

Details:

This monument is west of the two flagpoles. Of the two monuments at this site, it's the shorter one. Monument The memorial is a field stone with a metal plaque on its facade. The plaque contains some English script accompanied by an image of Lt. Lamar, his plane, and the emblem of the 355th Fighter Squadron - The Pugnacious Pups. Lt. Lamar's landing in Bigonville was forced while flying a mission north of Bastogne.

P - 470 (CQ - Q) FIGHTER PILOT, HIT BY FL.A.K. NORTH OF BASTOGNE ON THE

2nd JANUARY 1945

MANAGED TO REACH THE "ZINGSCHT'GORF" FOR A BELLY LANDING AND COME TO A FULL STOP IM "HOCH" SURVIVING THE CRASH;

P.S. SEVERAL MAIN PARTS OF THIS P-47D ARE AGAIN IN FLYING CONDITIONS ON "HUN HUNTER XVI" IN TENNESSEE SINCE YEAR 2000.

A TRIBUTE TO THE MEN OF THE 8th AND 9th USAAF WITHOUT THEM THE SUCCESSFUL END OF THE WW II WOULD HAVE TAKEN MUCH LONGER TO REACH PEACE IN EUROPE
