On the D-100, rue du Bouleux, 200 meters south of town on the west side of the road. Of the two monuments, the one on the left. Monument


A granite stele with French text engraved and painted white, topped by the insignia of the 5th Armored Division. 

The monument honors LTC Kent Fay, Commander of the 85th Cavalry Recon Squadron, 5th Armored "Victory" Division, killed at 35 years of age, outside of this village.

An information sign (in French) provides detail on the battle around Rully in 1944.

mort pour la France

a 35 ans le 30 aout 1944.

En reconnaissance aux

villageois de Rully pour

leur Courage, Compassion,

et Vigile de Priere

dans l'eglise.

 

 

English translation:

 

In memory of LTC Kent Fay, killed for France at 35 years of age on 30 August 1944. In recognition of the villagers of Rully for their courage, compassion, and prayers in the church.
