Monument
A mini-replica of a C-47 overlooks a stone wall with six black plaques with gold lettering commemorating the air crews of the C-47s that crashed in the area while dropping paratroopers on D-Day. A glassed-in container holds one of the C-47's engines.

Apres le decollage de la base de Upottery, Grande Bretagne

dans la nuit du 5 au 6 Juin 1944

Le C-47 nr. serie 42-100819 devait connaitre une fin tragique.

Apres avoir ete touche par la flak Allemande,

il s'ecrasait en flammes au lieu dit "la maison de haut"

Les seize parachutistes et les quatres hommes d'equipage

y trouvant la mort.

Ce moteur, Pratt & Whitney 1830 nr. P-133538 fut decouvert en 1986

sur les lieux du crash par la

famille DENNEBUOY

 

English translation:

 

The C-47 N 42-100819 met a tragic end on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944. After its takeoff from Upottery airbase in the UK, it was hit by German AA fire and crashed in flames in "the high house" area. All sixteen paratroopers and four crewmen died in the crash. This Pratt & Whitney motor 1830 N P-133538 was discovered in 1986 at the crash site by the Dennebouy family
