James E. Johnson was the son of John Johnson. He was employed at the New York Agricultural Terra Cotta Company plant in Long Island City. He enlisted on March 10, 1917. He was assigned after training to the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division and was in the first convoy of soldiers sent to France. He was killed in action at Soissons on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens County, New York, USA.
