Oscar Edwin Granlund was born on October 5, 1895 in Holmes City, Douglas County, Minnesota. His father is John Matson and his mother is Karen Martha. He entered the military service in North Dakota and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 (at the age of 22) in France and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Grandlund.
