Edgar M. Boyd entered the military service in North Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 19, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a cenotaph in Rolla Cemetery, Rolette County, North Dakota, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as a Private.
