When Hugo W. Boettcher was born in February 1897 in Minnesota, his father, Traugott, was 38 and his mother, Paulina, was 41. He had one brother and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company I, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 19, 1918 and is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
