When Paul Sammons was born on October 23, 1899, in Gibson, Georgia, his father, Henry, was 24 and his mother, Mamie, was 22. He had four brothers and one sister. He entered the service on July 7, 1917. He was in training at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia, where he was attached to Company "I," 26th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, with which unit he embarked for overseas service in January, 1918. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1918 (at the age of 27) and is now buried in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson, Glascock County, Georgia, USA.
