When Norman L. Roe was born in September 10, 1899, his father, George, was 32 and his mother, Ella, was 30. He had three sisters. He entered the military service in Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company E, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 19, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
