When Hugh A. Manchester was born in October 1899 in Ohio, his father, William, was 25 and his mother, Margaret, was 25. He had one brother and five sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company L, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
