When Edward Laplont was born in August 1896 in Michigan, his father, Ellen, was 23 and his mother, James, was 35. He lost his father when he was only 10 years old. He entered the military service in Michigan and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in HQ Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
