When Robert Ollie Griggs was born on May 18, 1896, in Winston, Alabama, his father, Ezekial, was 25 and his mother, Martha, was 19. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Old Saltillo Cemetery, Saltillo, Hopkins County, Texas, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument under Company C of his unit.
