When William Harvey Coacher was born on November 10, 1893, in Yankton, South Dakota, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Mary, was 30. He had three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Captain in Company E, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on August 14, 1918 and is now buried in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell, Davison County, South Dakota, USA.
