When Roy C. Stunkard was born on August 5, 1899, in Frankfort, Indiana, his father, John, was 44 and his mother, Eliza, was 33. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 25, 1918 (at the age of 17) in France and is now buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana, USA.
