When Charles Mord Stramberg was born on November 1, 1870, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, his father, Nathaniel, was 35 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 39. Stramberg went overseas with the first U. S. unit to go to the firing line as Second Lieutenant and was promoted to First Lieutenant on the field in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He had been an officer in the United States Regulars for a number of years and had taken part in the Spanish War in the Philippines where he received a decoration for bravery. He also took part in the Mexican affair. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 (at the age of 24) in France and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Stramburg.
