When John Hartwell Moore was born on September 17, 1892, in De Kalb, Texas, his father, Samuel, was 38 and his mother, Sarah, was 32. He had two brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Second Lieutenant in Company D, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 (at the age of 25) in Picardie, France and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
