When Carl C. Engemann was born on January 25, 1897, in Góra, Dolnoslaskie, Poland, his father, Paul, was 33 and his mother, Hedwig, was 31. He had two brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in Utah and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Medical Detachment Company, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 19, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Vittum Hill Cemetery, Sandwich, Carroll County, New Hampshire, USA.
