When Harley B. Hoy was born on January 14, 1896, in Napoleon, Ohio, his father, William, was 32 and his mother, Empress, was 25. He had one brother and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Ambulance Company #13, 1st Sanitary Trains, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1918 (at the age of 22) and is now buried in Mathias Township Cemetery, Trenary, Alger County, Michigan, USA.
