When Edgar C. Deneke was born on May 6, 1889, his father, Ferdinand, was 47 and his mother, Friedricke, was 40. He had three brothers and five sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during Wolrd War I as a Private First Class in Company C, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action in 1918 and is now buried in Zion Cemetery, Elberfeld, Warrick County, Indiana, USA. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument in the MISSING IN ACTION section of the monument. His surname is inscribed as Denekee.
