When Perley Cecil Carty was born on March 12, 1894, in Indiana, his father, Albert, was 36 and his mother, Rose, was 22. He had two brothers. He served in the U.S. Army during Wolrd War I as a Private in Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was declared "Missing in Action" on July 18, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. His name is commemorated on the Buzancy monument in the MISSING IN ACTION section of the monument.
