When Vance Vestal was born on March 1, 1890, in Parke, Indiana, his father, Thomas, was 36 and his mother, Alice, was 29. He had three brothers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in Coloma Friends Cemetery, Parke County, Indiana, USA.
