When Vincent P. Gossie was born on July 28, 1894, in Wayne, Michigan, his father, Anthony, was 28 and his mother, Isabella, was 34. He had two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Goosie and ranked as a Private.
