When Darrell Orien Beiter was born on January 13, 1896, in Bakersville, Ohio, his father, Daniel, was 26 and his mother, Sophia, was 26. He married Thelma Lewis on August 28, 1917, in Tuscarawas, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company F, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 (at the age of 22) in France and is now buried in East State Street Cemetery, Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, USA.
