When Howard S. Patterson was born on January 5, 1891, in Pierce, Wisconsin, his father, Harry, was 31 and his mother, Marian, was 23. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company G, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on November 8, 1918 (at the age of 27) and is now buried in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Elmwood, Pierce County, Wisconsin, USA.
