When French D. Hinant was born on March 18, 1897, in Kentucky, his father, Montezuma, was 51 and his mother, Florence, was 28. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 3, 1918 (at the age of 21) in France and is now buried in Cook Cemetery, Woodbury, Butler County, Kentucky, USA.
