Paul Alden Ward was born on December 21, 1894, in Westville, OH, to Clement Vallendgham and Anna Barbara Lutz Ward. He was the youngest of 5 children. In the spring of 1918, Paul was drafted and left for Camp Sherman, He was only 23 years old. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 6, 1918 (at the age of 23) in France and is now buried in Nettle Creek Cemetery, Westville, Champaign County, Ohio, USA.
