When Aubrey Leon Compton and his twin brother Otis Linwood were born on January 7, 1899, in North Carolina, their father, John, was 37, and their mother, Minnie, was 22. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Medical Detachment Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 at the age of 19 in France and is now buried in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, Roanoke City, Virginia, USA.
