When Charles Alonza Shaner was born on August 18, 1895, his father, Daniel, was 50 and his mother, Amanda, was 43. He had four brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 9, 1918 and is now buried in Klickitat Cemetery, Mossyrock, Lewis County, Washington, USA.
