When Robert A. Zoellner was born on October 25, 1894, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, his father, Karl, was 37 and his mother, Magdalena, was 34. He had three brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a memorial gravestone in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, USA.
