When Robert Lawrence Schwei was born on March 27, 1899, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his father, Jacob, was 26 and his mother, Magdalena, was 28. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 5, 1918 (at the age of 19) in France and is now buried in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Dickinson County, Michigan, USA.
