When Vaughn T. McGee was born in May 1895 in South Dakota, his father, Benjamin, was 27 and his mother, Eva, was 21. He had three brothers and three sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company L, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 6, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
