When Orion Helm was born on September 24, 1890, in Manassa, Colorado, his father, Levi, was 38 and his mother, Viola, was 34. He had one brother and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Musician Second Class in HQ Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 11, 1918 and is now buried in Elysian Burial Gardens, Millcreek, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA.
