Albert O. Kalad was born on July 4, 1890 in Rachia, Waddy, Syria. He was the son of Mahamod and Shreefe Kalad. Before entering service, he was a farm laborer. He enlisted in the Army on June 11, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Machine Gun Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 at the age of 28 and is now buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, Polk County, Minnesota, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Klad.
