When Walter Earl Bouts was born on January 13, 1896, his father, Frederick, was 43 and his mother, Sarah, was 34. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 8, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Bloom Township Cemetery, South Webster, Scioto County, Ohio, USA.
