When Thomas M. Powell was born on October 19, 1892, in Arab, Alabama, his father, Thomas, was 33 and his mother, Martha, was 32. He had two brothers. He enlisted in the Army on August 3, 1915 at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company D, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on November 13, 1918 in France and is now buried in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Joel, Carroll County, Georgia, USA.
