Private Stephens entered the service on May 29, 1918 and received preliminary training in local camps. He was attached to Company D, 24th Regiment, 1st Division, with which unit he embarked for overseas on August 1, 1918. Private Stephens was killed in action in the Argonne Forest Sector, in France on October 7, 1918 at the age of 27. He is now buried in Zebulon Cemetery, Blairsville, Union County, Georgia, USA
