When William A. Hirzel was born on February 5, 1895, in Cleveland, Ohio, his father, Albert, was 33 and his mother, Katherine, was 33. He married Lillian A. Kruse on December 1, 1917, in Cuyahoga, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1918 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company E, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on September 28, 1918 and is now buried in West Park Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
