When Edwin Frank Kopke was born on April 19, 1893, in Chicago, Illinois, his father, Charles, was 29 and his mother, Marie, was 26. He had one brother and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was killed by a German sniper on October 10, 1918 in France at the age of 25. He is now buried in Saint Luke Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
