When Wyatt Edward Silker was born on February 8, 1895, in Anamosa, Iowa, his father, John, was 28 and his mother, Lucinda, was 21. He had one sister. He entered the military service in North Dakota and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company M, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 1, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
