When Richard Wyers was born on March 8, 1893, in Alpena, Michigan, his father, Asa, was 28 and his mother, Mary, was 20. He had two brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action in 1918 in France and is now buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Saint Ignace, Mackinac County, Michigan, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but listed in the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.
