                            Hugo August Prell was born at Batesville, IN, on 18 June 1887. When he was called to military service in March 1918, he was working as a carpenter in Cincinnati. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.  In France, he was sent into action at Saizeras, St. Mihiel, and at the Meuse-Argonne. He was killed instantly by a trench mortar shell but declared "Missing" on October 6, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
