Edgar C. Strauchmann was born in 1896. Before he enlisted, Edgar was a member of the Monroe police force. He left Monroe with the first contingent of drafted men, from his county and went to Camp Custer and was assigned to Company M, 338th Infantry. He went overseas with the 85th Division and was assigned to Company G, 28th United States Infantry. Private Strauchmann was wounded in the second drive on the Argonne, October 4, 1918 and died in a field hospital two days later. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Strauchman. He is now buried in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan, USA.
