Peter Bertelson was born on April 24, 1888 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. He enlisted in the Army 24 April 1912 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company I, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 3, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Victory Memorial Drive, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Bertlson and ranked as a Private.
