Nils Axel Blomgren was born on June 23, 1892 in Stockholm, Stockholms kommun, Stockholms län, Sweden. He worked as a switchman for the CB & Q Railroad before the war. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 2, 1918 and is now buried in Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Blongren and ranked as a Private.
