When Donald Iros Ford was born on May 28, 1891, in Brown, Indiana, his father, James, was 25 and his mother, Luella, was 20. He was a graduate in the C. T. Ludwig Training School for Detectives, Kansas City, Mo., and was following his profession when he was called into service on May 21, 1918, Ottowa, Ill. He trained at Camp Gordon, GA and Camp Merritt, NJ. He went overseas in July 1918 and was assigned to Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 1, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his name's middle initial is inscribed as J.
