When Walter S. Simpson was born on March 8, 1887, in South Carolina, his father, Emizirah, was 37 and his mother, Salena, was 32. He had two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 10, 1918 at the age of 31 and is now buried in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Westminster, Oconee County, South Carolina, USA.
