When Benjamin F Daugherty was born on August 19, 1892, in Crawford, Wisconsin, his father, Elmer, was 31 and his mother, Serana, was 25. He had four brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Machine Gun Company, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 in France at the age of 26 and is now buried in Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Dougherty.
