When Henry R. Ziegelmeier was born in 1894 in Morris, Indiana, his father, Joseph, was 41 and his mother, Amelia, was 34. He had three brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Machine Gun Company, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 and is now buried in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Ziegelneir.
