When Emmett D. Perkins was born on May 12, 1894, in Kentwood, Louisiana, his father, Brazos, was 26 and his mother, Ida, was 31. He enlisted in the Army on June 13, 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in HQ Company, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 4, 1918 in France at the age of 24 and is now buried in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Silver Creek, Lawrence County, Mississippi, USA.
